Livestock Training Agency (LITA) was established as a Government Executive Agency under the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries in accordance with the Executive Agency Act No. 30 (Cap. 245) of the year 1997 and its subsequent amendments. The agency was established on 1st September, 2011 and started to execute its core functions in the financial year 2012/2013.
LITA was formed by merging six training centres which were previously recognized as Livestock Training Institutes (LITIs) under the Ministry responsible for Livestock Development. The previous six LITIs (with years of their establishments in brackets) include: Mpwapwa – Dodoma (1936), Morogoro – Morogoro (1948), Tengeru – Arusha (1952), Temeke – Dar es Salaam (1973), Buhuri – Tanga (1984), and Madaba – Songea (1989). Before establishment of LITA, trainings on livestock were operated by LITIs under the Directorate of Training, Research and Extension Services of the Ministry responsible for Livestock Development. After establishment of LITA, the LITIs became de facto and fully-fledged campuses under the agency in 2016 according to the National Council for Training and Education (NACTE) registration and accreditation procedures.

A candidate must have passed CSEE with at least four passes, among those; two passes must be of science subjects i.e. Biology, Agriculture, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics/ Engineering Sciences and Geography with a minimum qualification of at least grade D and have passed two other subjects except Religious and Cookery subjects with a minimum qualification of at least grade D
OR
Form six candidates who have passed ACSEE but do not have science subjects are allowed to use form four (IV) results. They will also start at NTA Level 4 – 6.
OR
A candidate must have passed CSEE and attended Vocational Training in Animal Health and Production – NVA Level 3 or Trade Test I
II. DIPLOMA COURSES (NTA 5 – 6) – Only for Tengeru Campus
- A candidate must have passed certificate course in Animal Health and Production (AHPC), Basic Certificate in General Agriculture and Certificate in Agriculture and Livestock Production (CALP)
III. DIPLOMA COURSES (NTA 6)
ANIMAL HEALTH & PRODUCTION: A candidate must have passed certificate course in Animal Health and Production (CAHP NTA Level 5).
VETERINARY LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY: A candidate must have passed Certificate course in Veterinary Laboratory Technology NTA Level 5.
RANGE MANAGEMENT & TSETSE CONTROL: A candidate must have passed certificate course in Animal Health and Production (CAHP NTA Level 5), or AHPC and CALP during term system.

All programmers offered at LITA campuses are open to both male and female students, local and foreign students. Certificate and Diploma Programmes:
The Agency normally invites applications for admission to various programmes offered by Livestock training Agency Campuses. Print clearly using capital letters.All applications must be completed in full, signed, and include a copy of birth certificate, certified transcript of any course(s) completed. Applicants must meet all entrance requirements of the programme otherwise, applications will not process.
(c) Academic Documents:
Confirmation of admission is conditional upon satisfactory verification of the academic qualifications of each student. Students’ registration exercise involves a thorough check of academic documents. Only original certificates and other relevant documents are accepted during registration.
